Potential transfer, lots of questions [25 Nov 2008|09:16pm]

[ mood | content ]

Hi, I'm Devra.

I'm a junior at Bennington College in Vermont, I'm about to withdraw + transfer. Right now I'm thinking Whittier's my first choice- I'm a social work major and my dream's to found a non-profit arts program for kids in foster care. Bennington has a similar system of creating your own education, written evaluations, etc., and we have less than 800 students, so the real shock for me will be moving across the country. And being nice and warm.

Are you guys glad you chose Whittier? Are any of you guys social work majors? What's the social scene like (for the most part, obviously there's not just one answer)? Is it easy to travel if you don't drive? Are the professors enthusiastic? Is the course-load manageable?

Basically anything I won't learn from a brochure would be wonderful. Thanks. :)

The Gender Club [10 Feb 2008|04:38pm]

Hey, I'm trying to see if there'd be anyone interested in a (quote) "Gender Club". This'd basically be like the Feminist Club... except, less Feminist, so as not to scare off too many people, and to expand our discourse to both genders and GLBT issues in general.

I just personally find it disappointing that, not only has the Feminist Club all but disappeared from campus but that I have yet to hear anything about a BGLAD meeting... it certainly does leave Freshmen like myself who are looking for said communities out of the loop. :-/

Meanwhile, I'm off ot make a Facebook group...:P

Random Posts Brought to You By Leggett, Inc. [05 Dec 2007|01:29pm]

So, the other night I saw "Rebel Without a Cause" in the Stauffer lounge, and I was just about the only freshman who had ever heard of the movie or even of James Dean. o.0

It's so ironic, because I previously posted on here that I wasn't even sure who he was, but I certainly had more of a clue than these dweebs.

By and by: I had no idea he was so frickin' *beautiful*. I wanted to have his babies. Seriously? Seriously.

Anywho, I keep on hearing from people that I am apparently becoming famous on campus. Is this true? Why don't more people I don't know come up to me and are like...whoa. Not whoa, but...y'know what I mean? No? Neither do I...XD

No one posts on this thing anymore... [28 Oct 2007|11:09pm]

...which makes me sad. *pout*

So, in the quest to find other people on LJ who go to Whittier, who here knows me, Andy Leggett, or has heard of me or seen me otherwise making a fool of myself about campus? (Of course, most of you being upperclassmen, you prolly haven't yet had the privelege of witnessing my rampages first hand.)

Okay, I'm gonna go read more Questionable Content now... I'ma gettin' up to #600 before midnight, w00t!

I Don't Even Know Who James Dean Is, Really... [17 Sep 2007|02:23pm]

This may come across as totally sick, but...: today, I felt so crappy in Music 70, because I didn't get the homework done. For some reason, I want to be some star student, because then I feel I get the right to stare at Muller's ass.

Now, I had this same issue with my Italian professor; am I really attracted to older men, or is it just a psychological/emotional connection to a subject I long to learn so much?

Either way, I'm one sick puppy...XP

Another Rabid Stampede! [10 Jun 2007|04:03pm]

[ mood | anxious ]

I just wanted to use that picture again...^_^

Anywho, this may seem kinda silly, but I wanted to throw a sorta financial aid question out there. Not so much a question as a concern: is it par the course for Whittier to not help you cover everything, because that's what I'm hearing. I think I need to seek out some extra loans or something, because according to my current package, it doesn't look like I'll be able to pay for much more than tuition...*chews fingernail*

What Should I Bring? [25 May 2007|01:15am]

So, today I visited my friend who works at the Gottshalks over at Country Plaza (that's near Watt and El Camino, for you non-Sacramentans, but if you don't live here, and you don't even know those two streets). Anywho, I got a really great deal on this purple suitcase (squee, my favorite color!), and I'm wondering now what I should bring when I come to Whittier in the fall.

Bear in mind that I don't have many clothes, or much of anything. My furniture is shitty, falling apart and with gaping holes. (I am pretty poor). And anyway, I've decided only to bring what I cannot stand to let out of my sight, but I wanted to know what your suggestion list would look like, so I know what else to get to be prepared, as far as what kind of clothes, toiletries, do they even have bookcases in the dorms? (I only have about a shelf and a half worth, not including my CDs).

Oh! Also, I got my catalog (of courses), and I'm getting really excited! I'm mostly sure of the classes I'm gonna take, 'cause I already know a few that I *have* to take (French and prolly the Freshman writin course), and I definitely wanna start on a Music class, and prolly something math or science oriented. I'm not that good at Math, so what can you guys tell me about placement tests? Are there remedial courses you have to take?

Behold, the Conquering Prospie Comes! [29 Apr 2007|04:33pm]

[ mood | anxious ]

Hello, I'm Andrew, and I just got accepted to Whittier, and I'm hoping I can go (still waiting on that financial aid package *crosses fingers*). Thank God for LJ communities! I feel so sadly ignorant about Whittier, and I'm not finding a whole lot of info out there about it. And my Aunt's got me in a whole huff about it being in east L.A. and that I might get jumped...

So, um, any info would be most helpful--you know talk it up, or assure me that if will be an excellent place to go, because I need a better reason than the official school color--PURPLE! Oh, what am I saying, purple makes everything better! ^_^ SQuee! *bounces*

About That Time Of Year [31 Jan 2006|11:32pm]

[ mood | Uh-Oh. ]

Another one of the ill-fated accepted students for the class of two-thousand... what, ten? Yeah, ten. Except not really ill-fated, because from what I saw, Whittier looks mightily cool and not at all ill-fating.

Still. How's... uh, everything, really? Like the rooming. Are the dorms nice? Do they actually read those little sheets they send saying "Hey, What Are You Like So We Might Pair You With Someone You Won't Totally Loathe"? Am I going to die? Be honest, doc, I can take it.

Wow I sound a whole lot less nervous and a whole lot more catty than I feel right now. Hm. This is going to sound incredibly goofy to most/all people, but is there any Dance Dance Revolution going down on campus, or am I going to have to finaggle a way to play my game?

Denmark Callin... [04 Jan 2006|12:35am]

Hi, I was the token Danish student in '98-'99.

My name is Susanne, I live in Denmark, I'm 32, and I produce and production manage film and theater.

I'd love to get in touch with some of the people I knew back then, especially Carrie Whittier, if anybody knows her (or someone who knows someone, who...) or Lisa Christopher.

Still miss California, L.A., the beautiful campus - and The Spot, where I worked !-)

Transferring? [20 Oct 2005|03:44pm]

Hi, guys! My name is Erin, I'm 19 and currently a freshman at an American international university in London. I'd really like to transfer to Whittier for the Spring of 2006, though! It sounds like a really wonderful place. I'm not sure if anyone can answer this question for me, but does anyone know how easy it is for someone to transfer in so early on in their college career? I'll have 15 credits when I complete my transcript in mid-December. How many transfers are usually accepted for the spring?

Thanks so much in advance!

Just a quick question:

How important is all the stuff they're trying to sell freshmen at http://www.rhl.org/wit ? What, out of all of this stuff or anything extra you guys can think of, do I actually need? Sure, most of it depends on my roommate (though we don't find those out for another week or so :/ ) but I'd like to have a basic idea.

Oh, and I'm in the Connections program in Ball Hall. Anyone else?
